The people that watched the second game of the Nike Super 6 Invitational between American Christian Academy out of Pennsylvania and South Kent Prep out of Connecticut, saw American Christian dominate the game with their superior size coupled with an outstanding performance by the #4 ranked junior in the country Tyreke Evans. Rapper, Richboy performed his hit song “Throw Some D’s” in between games and it proved to be ironic as South Kent wasn’t able to throw any D, as in Defense, on American Christian as they let American score 110 points in the game.

The first half started with South Kent guard Calvin Haynes scoring on consecutive baskets to give Prep an early 8 -4 lead but after Michael Glover converted on back to back three point plays to give American a 12-8 lead, American never looked back. After a high flying dunk by University of Alabama-Birmingham recruit Keenen Ellis pushed American’s lead to 21-12, Prep’s own prized recruit, junior Isaiah Thomas, (heading to the northwest to play for Lorenzo Romar and the Washington Huskies in ‘08), did his best to try to keep his team in it, providing 15 points in the half. Thomas’ effort would not be enough as American took a 16 point lead into halftime, 57-41 behind 18 points from Tyreke Evans and 15 from Michael Glover.

The second half proved to be more of the same despite strong efforts from Prep’s Christian Morris and Matthew Amaning, each scoring 6 and 12 points respectively in the half. Isaiah Thomas of Prep continued to show why he is one of the best young players in the country by dropping 13 more points in the half but it would come in a blowout as American continued to dominate the paint and Tyreke Evans continued to dominate Prep’s defense or lack thereof. American would lead by as many as 22 points with Tyreke Evans seemingly slashing and driving everywhere. With Michael Glover controlling the offensive glass (American out rebounded Prep on the offensive glass 24-14), American was able to coast to the easy 110-91 victory.

South Kent Prep was lead by Isaiah Thomas’ 28 points and 7 rebounds, earning Thomas the game’s Sportsmanship Award. Thomas was followed by teammates, Christian Morris 16 points 8 rebounds and Matthew Amaning’s 12 points and 8 rebounds. American Christian’s Tyreke Evans was named the game’s Most Outstanding Player after posting numbers of 33 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Michael Glover added 23 points and 9 rebounds of his own for American and Kahlil McDonald chipped in 18 points off the bench.

Notes: South Kent alumnus and New Jersey Net Josh Boone was on the bench cheering on his old squad.
