The Nike Super 6 Invitational got under way in New York City and featured 6 of the top high school teams in the country battling it out in front of an array of fans and college scouts. The matinée between Christ The King Royals and Wings Academy Wings didn’t disappoint.

The first quarter proved to be a tight battle as CTK’s guard and University of Florida recruit, Erving Walker and Wing’s forward, David Williamson provided the scoring punch for their respective teams. The players traded back to back to back baskets as the quarter ended with CTK holding a slim one point lead 15-14.

The second quarter was more of the same but this time CTK’s forward, Ryan Pearson and Wing’s guard, Jamie Harris contributed to the offense, scoring 9 and 6 points respectively in the quarter. CTK’s Erving Walker continued his hot shooting netting 8 points in the quarter as well as helping CTK extend their lead to 40-33 heading into the locker room at the half.

As the second half started, so did CTK’s control on the game. The Royals used a balance scoring attack in the quarter as several players scored 4 points in the quarter. Wing’s Jamie Harris did his part to keep his team in it by scoring 6 more points in the quarter that saw CTK lead by as many as 15.

The final frame looked as if Wings Academy might make it a game as they started the quarter on a 6-0 run sparked by back to back baskets from David Williamson that cut the Royals lead to just 4 points. The Wings however, would never get any closer. After a driving and 1 layup by Pearson pushed the lead back up to 9 after the made freethrow, both teams continued to trade baskets. Although the Wings continued to play pressure defense, they were never able to get the lead to less than 9 points as Christ The King emptied their bench at the 1:00 minute mark with a 13 point lead and were able to hold on for the 11 point victory, 74-63.

Jamie Harris led Wings with 22 points and 7 assists but was just 2 of 8 from beyond the arc. Harris’ performance earned him the game’s Sportsmanship Award as teammate David Williamson chipped in with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Christ The King was lead by Ryan Pearson’s 23 points and 14 rebounds, earning him the game’s Most Outstanding Player Award. Florida Gator recruit Erving Walker scored 18 points and point guard Malik Boothe contributed 11 points along with 9 assists.
